My Atheist Tattoo.

2009 November 8

Picture 002

FINALLY!!! After a couple years of procrastination, decision-making and hesitation, I received my first tattoo!

I am 48 years old and I’ve never been inked before. This was a great first for me. I decided on the Out Campaign’s “A” symbol.

Congratulations! Very cool! How much did you cry? =D

    • 2009 November 8

I took it like a man! I cried when I got home.

        lol

But, but! Now I can’t fulfill my clandestine plans to convert you to Judaism! Jews aren’t supposed to get tattoos!

    • 2009 November 9

I can understand why a Jew wouldn’t get a tatt. It’s too much like branding.

Heh. I was just being facetious. It’s not just the Holocaust thing, though. I believe it says it somewhere in Leviticus 19:28.

My mom always said if you get a tattoo you can’t get a Jewish burial. Then again, she also always told me that Jewish boys don’t play football. I am pretty sure that one is not in the Bible.

“Thou shalt not throw around the skin of the pig, for it shall make thee unclean. The day thou throws such an abomination you shall be sacked by the tribe of Rednecks and there will be much gnashing of teeth in the stands. And the cheerleaders shall look upon thee with pleasure no more for bloody and broken shall be thy face.”

It’s still a pretty cool tattoo, though.

Beautiful! I want to get something like that someday. Congrats on the sweet tattoo!

  4. 2009 November 9

Nice! Now that I’m not a Christian anymore (long story), I want a tattoo, but I lack the funds. I can’t wait to get one! Yours looks really good!

i already have two very LARGE tattoos and to this day i regret getting them!

the entire fun of having tattoos for me faded away about 2 years after they were done

i’m also gay and have been out since i was 16 but i would never tattoo the word gay or homo on my body lol
and i know i’m atheist and have known for many years
and wouldnt tattoo an atheist symbol or the word atheist on my body either

all tattoos are personal…i hope you enjoy it for many years to come!

Congrats!! Good choice for a first one! Think you’ll get any more?

    • 2009 November 9

Perhaps. I hadn’t really thought about it.

Welcome to the atheist tattoo club.

I recently finished my first atheist tattoo on my right arm, its a bio-metric double helix with the @ atheist symbol on the shoulder in the molecules.

Here are some pics if you care to take a look:

      @ atheisto:
I’m not really into tattoos, but yours are really quite artistic.

love the tattoo, but I think it’s time for some arm curls there old man!!!!!!

    • 2009 November 9

Shit, I used to be buffed.

Does lifting beers count as arm curls?

Does lifting beers count as arm curls?

        Only if you’re lifting kegs.

        • 2009 November 10

          Good point, Chappy. :)

    AWESOME!

That is totally bad ass that you did that. Now people will be asking “what the “A” stands for”, lol.

I’ve been doing much of the same (though not my first) of procrastinating in getting “atheist” and “vegan” tattooed on my inner wrists.

    • 2009 November 9

Now people will be asking “what the “A” stands for”,

      Yep…and that’s precisely why I chose the “A” symbol.

I’m just trying to think if I’ve heard any stories about Christian tattoo parlors. Did you get any kind of vibe from the tattoo artist?

    • 2009 November 10

No, the tattoo artist was very neutral. He did tell he believed in a supernatural force of some kind, but was non religious.

Just make sure Jesus doesn’t see it when he returns =)

I got the tatt to to ensure that I wouldn’t be taken during the Rapture.

It looks great! And also like it was painful.

    • 2009 November 10

There wasn’t much pain, really. :)

Fabulous tattoo and quite a statement! I have a “tramp stamp” that reflects my lifestyle. Don’t know if I’d do the Out Campaign symbol though – gutsy :)

Very nice. I myself was considering getting the Out Campaign A. But, instead I got Darwin’s Finches with Charles Darwin’s signature underneath them. Though not really an atheist tattoo, I figure it is close enough.

      Very cool and creative!
