I have often wondered not only how one can believe in a deity, but why do people believe in something that is not tangible, like their God. Some folks claim that their God intervenes or guides their lives on a daily basis and even their every thought. I realize that not all religions teach this, but many branches of Christianity and Islam do.
We humans have many questions about life and one of those is, “Why do people believe in God?”

* Does belief seemingly protect you from harm’s way? Are you invisibly protected from gunfire or other weapons of death? Thousands of deaths occur every year that are gun related. I’m quite sure many of them felt God’s presence before their untimely death.

* Are you afraid of death? Most of us are, both believer and non-believer.

* Are you afraid of life? There are many of us handling life’s problems…rationally. You can too!

* Do you believe because you were told you should? Sometimes, family and friends put an extreme amount of pressure on their loved ones to believe in supernatural beings and doctrine.

* Are you afraid there might be a Hell or another type of punishment after you die? If you’re going through the motions of religious rituals and doctrine just to keep your ass from going to some mythological place of punishment…chances are that you don’t really believe.

* Does your God make you feel secure? If you need a sense of physical security, get a gun or a dog. If you need emotional security, get counseling from a therapist.

* Does your God keep you from murdering or raping someone? If you need your God to keep you from committing heinous crimes, then seek counseling and implement better self-control and judgment.

* Would you be an alcoholic or drug addict if you lost your belief? Self-control is the key to a drug-free life.

* Does your God heal your body? Why would your God heal you, but ignore the thousands of other diseased folks that die everyday?

Why is it about a God anyway? You can believe in yourself and achieve/accomplish most any task, either as an individual or with other supporting members of the human race. I live without a belief in deities…you can too!

This would make a good science fiction-horror movie if Steven Spielberg or James Cameron were ever to produce it. I’ve always been of fan of zombie movies. Many people claim this fictional event actually happened even though the other Gospels fail to mention it.

It seems as though the Catholic Church doesn’t like Rep. Kennedy supporting a woman’s right to have an abortion. I am happy to be an atheist and not tolerate power-hungry “men of the cloth”.

* How can a Catholic clergy have enough power to judge and control the partaking of Holy Communion which is a personal matter?

A month of harsh words between U.S. Rep. Patrick Kennedy and Roman Catholic Bishop Thomas Tobin escalated Sunday when the bishop acknowledged asking Kennedy not to receive Holy Communion because of the Democratic lawmaker’s support for abortion rights.

The bishop’s attempt to publicly shame Kennedy on his abortion stance comes just a few months after the death of his father, Sen. Edward Kennedy. Tobin told The Associated Press that the younger Kennedy, who has been in and out of treatment for substance abuse, has been acting “erratically.”

Their dispute began in October when Kennedy criticized the nation’s Catholic bishops for threatening to oppose an overhaul of the nation’s health care system unless lawmakers included tighter restrictions on abortion, which have since been added to the House version of the bill. Tobin said he felt Kennedy made an unprovoked attack on the church and demanded an apology.

I really like the message behind this video. I too, grow tired of reading the false assumptions and accusations from people who don’t understand atheism. It must hard to get their heads around the fact that not everyone needs a deity of some sort and still retain a high standard of morality without the fear of fictitious beings like devils or demons to punish me after I die. That is about the silliest shit I have ever heard! Demons.. Is there a boogeyman under your bed too?

It floors me how a person like a doctor or scientist in the 21st century could believe that mythological beings actually exist and do things for humans, even without sufficient evidence.

* Does one need a belief in God to refrain from committing heinous crimes? I don’t!

* If you really believe that your God is looking out for you, maybe you should pray instead of calling 911 for that medical emergency.

Without any scientific education or background, Kirk Cameron uses religious faith in the Bible to expose errors in “The Origin of Species”, written by Charles Darwin.

In a recent YouTube video, Cameron lays out a plan to subvert ‘Darwin Day’ on November 22, 2009, which date marks the 150th anniversary of the publishing of Charles Darwin’s “Origin of Species.”

Cameron says that he, Ray Comfort and other activists plan to deliver 50,000 copies of an altered version of Darwin’s book to students at dozens of U.S. universities. Cameron contends that America is brainwashed by atheistic science.

Cameron explains that this “very special” edition of the “Origin of Species” will include an introduction explaining “Adolf Hitler’s undeniable connection” to the theory of evolution, and highlighting “Darwin’s racism” and “his disdain for women.” Cameron’s edition also exposes the “many hoaxes” of evolutionary theory, while presenting a “balanced view of Creationism.”

N.Y. reverend gets 5 years probation for using church funds for luxuries

The Rev. William Blasingame also must pay back $84,537 to St. Paul’s Memorial Episcopal Church on Staten Island.

Prosecutors say he paid for personal luxuries, including tens of thousands of dollars worth of plastic surgery and Botox treatments, with money earmarked for the needy and the upkeep of church grounds.

Defense attorney James Hasson said Wednesday that Blasingame plans to sell land he owns in Georgia to cover the restitution, the Staten Island Advance reported.

Blasingame pleaded guilty to felony grand larceny in September. He could have faced 15 years in prison if convicted at trial.

His lawyer says Blasingame is “very sorry.”

* Why didn’t he sell his land in Georgia to pay for his plastic surgery and Botox treatments?

* He didn’t just steal $84,537 from the church, but by doing this he essentially stole food and other articles from the people that needed it…worse than him.

* What was his motive for this selfish act of crime? Did he feel he needed to look his best for Heaven?

Here are some of the things that cross my mind when I hear or see religion trying to impose itself upon our private, and indeed public, lives.
It certainly has not earned the respect it says it deserves.

Nothing is black and white, but I believe we are where we are today in spite of religion, not because of it.
The majority of educated people do not need it, that’s for certain.

If this ever gets out to a wider audience then it will be interesting to see which religion thinks I picked on it in particular.

I am sick and tired of hearing how Jesus loves everyone and how moral Christians are. It’s faulty reasoning and obviously….a fallacy.
Christians are the ones that fill our prisons…not atheists.
